Serious home thief jailed [1]

Ma’ake Kali (41) who was convicted for the theft of goods valued at around $20,000 from a home at Pili, was sentenced to two-years imprisonment.
In February last year, the accused and a co-accused broke into a home. They stole quite a number of valuables, including beds, chairs, filing cabinets, drawers, a washing machine, clothes, stoves and other household items, valued at a total of $20,570 pa'anga.
The accused who lived at Popua pleaded guilty to the offence.
Hon Mr Justice Cato on November 1 at the Supreme Court, in sentencing him to two-years suspended the final nine-months.
This was based on conditions that, he must live where directed, must not to commit any offence during probation, must not drink alcohol and is required to take up a course on alcohol abuse under the direction of Probation and the Salvation Army.
The accused who had a previous criminal record for theft, was warned that a failure to comply with the conditions of suspension may mean his return to prison.
The sentence was backdated to when he was first remanded into custody.
His co-accused was already sentenced.
