Tonga Invitational have prematurely ended their Rugby League 9s World Cup campaign with a disappointing 20 – 24 loss to Samoa. 

Tonga Invitational scored the first try of the game but trailed at half-time 10 – 18. A rally in the second half came too little, too late, with Tevita Pangai Junior scoring the final try of the game between the posts. 

The team finish second last on their pool behind the Cook Islands and pool champions Samoa who will proceed to the to the semi-finals of the tournament.

The semi-finals and grand-final of the Rugby League 9s World Cup campaign will be played tonight.
