Tonga Invitational have kept their semi-final hopes alive after defeating Fiji 21 – 17 in extra time.

Both sides were plagued with errors and Tonga Invitational failed to convert all of its five tries. Tonga led at half time 8 – 4 after scoring two tries in the form of Robert Jennings and William Fakatoumafi.

The game appeared to be heading towards a convincing victory after two more tries were scored by Malakai Watene-Zelezniak and Sione Katoa to put Tonga ahead 17 – 4. Fiji leveled the score with two converted tries including one in the final minute.

Tonga Invitational won in extra time with a corner try by Robert Jennings. Semi-final chances have been boosted after their fellow pool opponents Samoa defeated the Cook Islands 17 – 4.
