The Tonga Post Office has set up a mobile service at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall outside the Restricted Area of central Nuku'alofa.
Sapate Mafile'o, a mobile postal officer, said that they began the mobile service on November 23 because people do not have access to the central Post Office.
The mobile service will bring out letters, packages and mail for people who have requested it, but people need to come and pick their mail up from the hall.
"We have received many phone calls from our customers requesting their mail because of the restriction effective in Nuku'alofa following the riot," said Sapate.
Tonga's first temporary Mobile Post office is now operating in a postal vehicle to provide daily postal services for its customers parked outside the front entrance of the Queen Salote Memorial Hall.
She added that they are not bringing down all of the mails received by the Post office but only the mails and packages that have been requested.
"Today we began providing other postal services such as selling stamps for customers as well as our mail scales for customers who want to post any packages overseas."
Sapate also confirmed that the Post Office is still fully functional in spite of the riot last week, and letters as well as well as packages are still being sorted to mailboxes within the restricted zone.
"We have announced on national radio that our mobile postal service will be located at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall at a specific time," said Sapate.
