Cabinet to approve PM's funeral arrangements [1]

Funeral arrangements are being planned for Tonga’s Prime Minister Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva (78) who died on September 12 at Auckland City Hospital.

The arrangements are awaiting approval from Cabinet before being released.

Acting Prime Minister Hon Semisi Sika in a national radio broadcast made a short official announcement yesterday evening. He said the PM died at around 9:00am.

This was after he was medically evacuated to New Zealand on September 11 after being diagnosed earlier this year with a liver complication.

Two weeks earlier he was admitted to the Medical Ward at Vaiola Hospital for pneumonia, and was in the intensive care unit before going to New Zealand.
