Seven people including a suspended police officer have been arrested after 20.85 grams of methamphetamine and two grams of cocaine was seized by Police from Ngele’ia and ‘Anana in Tongatapu on September 3.
The Tonga Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce made the seizure in an ongoing drug operation targeting suppliers of illicit drugs.
The accused, who included one woman and six men, aged 24-40 years old, remain in police custody.
Among them was a police officer who had already been suspended for a previous incident.
Deputy Police Commissioner Pelenatita Fe`ao Vaisuai said today this is a significant seizure of the illicit drugs and drugs utensils, which had the potential to cause serious harm to the local community.
"There is no denying the detrimental impact illicit drugs have on people’s lives. The Police continue to work hard and smart through education and strict enforcement in its drive to disrupt the supply of illicit drugs and to reduce the harm to our community.”
DPC Vaisuai also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of police involved in the seizure for their commitment to intercepting the supply of the harmful drugs, in order to keep our communities safe and protected. The Police urged anyone who has information on drug dealing in our communities to contact them.
