German woman missing on 'Eua dive trip [1]

A German visitor (40) remains missing at sea in ‘Eua, after she went out diving with others on Sunday, August 11.

Acting Deputy Commissioner ‘Atunaisa Taumoepeau said today, a search continues but there had been no sighting to date.

It was reported to Police, that the woman was part of a whale watching group that were diving inside the 'Eua cave, situated on the northern tip of the island.

He said this location is known to divers as the “Cathedral”. The woman went missing during the dive.

Police were informed on Sunday afternoon and a Police Search and Rescue operation started.

The search is being supported by local boats and divers, RCC New Zealand, and HMAF as well as the Australian Navy Boat, HMAS Amidale. 

The missing woman's name has not been released by Tonga Police.
