Accused police officer remains in custody [1]

A police officer charged with accepting bribery in relation to the Sione Filipe Jr. case remains in custody with his bail to be reviewed on July 26.

Police Prosecution said today Fanguna Alalea will have his bail reviewed by the Magistrate’s Court.

In the meantime, both Fanguna and Sione Filipe Jr remain detained in police custody.

The pair are expected to appear at the lower court on July 29.

Fanguna is charged with accepting a bribe in relation to the Filipe Jr. case, regarding illicit drugs.

On July 15, Filipe Jr. was arrested for the second time by Tonga Police.

This was after having been charged with possession of illicit drugs relating to the seizure of 242 grams of cannabis seeds brought into Tonga, at Fua’amotu International Airport in March.

In addition over 85 grams of cannabis liquid was seized with an illegal firearm and ammunition at his home in Tofoa, during a search warrant.
