A 40-year-old man who was arrested in Nukunuku for shooting another man during an altercation last week has been charged with grievous bodily harm, possession of arm and ammunition without a license..

Tonga Police said today the accused, who has not been named, since he has yet to appear at the Magistrate’s Court, remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

The shooting was reported to have occurred after midnight on June 20 on Hihifo Road in Nukunuku, where a 22-year-old man was shot in his stomach.

Police seized a .22 rifle in the shooting.

Meanwhile, the victim who was hospitalized was discharged over the weekend.
