Dr Saia Piukala joins WHO Executive board [1]

Dr Saia Ma’u Piukala, Tonga’s Minister for Health was appointed as a member of the World Health Organisation Executive Board during the 72nd World Health Organisation Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland last week.
The Executive Board is the decision making body of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Dr Piukala will attend the 145th session of the Executive Board in Geneva from 29-30 May.
As one of the 34 members of the WHO Executive Board serving for the next three years, Dr Piukala will bring his perspective on Pacific health issues, such as non-communicable diseases and the impact of climate change.
The Tonga Prime Minister’s office, stated that Dr Piukala will also be a commissioner on WHO’s Independent Global High Level Commission on Non-communicable diseases and for safe and affordable surgery.
