Embezzler up for sentencing May 31 [1]

Finau Heuifanga Vea who was convicted of embezzling more than $70,000 pa’anga from her employer, Five Star Finance in 2015 will be sentenced on May 31.

The Supreme Court office today, confirmed the convicted offender is detained in police custody for sentencing, at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa.

On April 26, Hon Mr Justice Cato had found her guilty of embezzlement after being involved “in a clear pattern of deceit” by diverting loan funds into third party accounts over a period.

From April to October 2015, at Havelu while working as a loans officer, Vea dishonestly converted to her own use the money she received on behalf of Five Star Finance. 

In addition, the court found that before arrested she had admitted a debt to her employer of $115,497.80.

As a loans officer, Vea had completed loan agreements for clients that were approved by her principal. But the funds were not deposited to the customer's accounts.
