A range of equipment to help the Ministry of Health support emergency services in times of disaster, was gifted by Japan today.
The equipment contained seven first aid kits (each content equivalent for 50 people), tents, portables tents and mobile toilets.
The Japanese Ambassador, HE Mr. Tetsuya Ishii, said the key objective of Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA) is to strengthen capability against diverse social and economic challenges.
“I am grateful to handover the equipment to help the Ministry of Health enhance people’s preparedness and provide improved emergency services to everyone.”
The Minister for Health, Hon. Saia Piukala thanked the Ambassador for the continuous donation through NPGA received by the Ministry of Health.
He said the equipment would strengthen response by the Ministry to disasters and significantly improve the health of the people of Tonga.
"The Ministry of Health has benefitted from NPGA donation in 2016 and 2018 with equipment valued over millions of pa’anga."
This is the third batch of Japan’s $6 million pa’anga NPGA for disaster reduction equipment formalized for Tonga, in March 2015.
