Tonga’s Prime Minister, Hon Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva is still undergoing medical treatment at Mercy Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, after completing stage one of the treatment, on May 8.

A next stage is scheduled for Thursday May 16, stated the Prime Minister's office in Nuku'alofa today on the unspecified medical procedure.

Meanwhile, on May 10, PM Pohiva met New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Winston Peters.

Rt. Hon. Peters. requested the meeting. He offered PM Pohiva his moral support and wished him early recovery from the medical treatment he is undergoing at the Mercy Hospital.

"They also took the opportunity to discuss ongoing cooperation between the New Zealand and Tongan governments to address the drugs problem that the two countries are facing, as well as Tonga’s new Parliamentary building which the New Zealand and Australian governments have committed to build."

On April 30, it was confirmed that Tonga's Prime Minister was to undergo a medical procedure due to a liver complication. No further details have been released.
