Sione Filipe Jr accused in airport cannabis seizure, on bail [1]

Sione Filipe Jr is the man charged over 242 grams of cannabis seeds brought into Tonga, at Fua’amotu International Airport on March 30.
Police Prosecution confirmed today his case was called on Monday, April 29 at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court. The case was adjourned to May 27 for further mention at the lower court.
On April 18, Tonga Police reported this case after Quarantine officers intercepted the cannabis seeds.
A search warrant was then executed at his home in Tofoa, where officers allegedly seized over 85 grams of cannabis liquid along with an illegal firearm and ammunition.
He was charged with unlawfully possessing and importing illicit drugs, possessing a firearm and ammunition without a license and false declaration on arrival card.
The accused, who has been released on bail, is the husband of Hon. Frederica Tuita Filipe. Frederica is a daughter of Princess Pilolevu and Lord Tuita, and a niece of King Tupou VI.
