Israel Folau will face a panel of three distinguished barristers in a code of conduct hearing on 4 May at the Rugby Australia Building in Sydney, Rugby Australia announced yesterday 22 April.
The three panel members are John West QC (Chair) – a highly regarded commercial arbitrator, Kate Eastman SC – a highly regarded human rights lawyer, John Boultbee SC – representative for the Rugby Union Players' Association.
Folau will have to convince the panel that a controversial post he shared on instagram two weeks ago was not hate speech as alleged by Rugby Australia, who consequently terminated Folau’s contract for breach of contract. The Wallaby superstar is expected to plead freedom of speech/expression in his defence.
