Man charged for importing cannabis at airport [1]

Police revealed yesterday that Tonga’s Drug Enforcement Taskforce charged a 34-year-old man from Tofoa after Quarantine officers intercepted over 242 grams of cannabis seeds being brought into the Kingdom at Fua’amotu International Airport on March 30. They did not reveal the flight or country of origin.
Deputy Pelenatita Fe’ao Vaisuai stated that a search warrant was executed at the accused’s residence in Tofoa, where officers allegedly seized over 85 grams of cannabis liquid along with an illegal firearm and ammunition.
The accused has been charged with unlawfully possessing and importing illicit drugs, possessing a firearm and ammunition without a license, and false declaration on arrival card.
The suspect will appear at the Magistrate's Court in Nuku'alofa on 29 April.
