Tonga's Free Wesleyan Church aimed to raise $100,000 at their annual bazaar on October 25 at the Akoteu ground, Nuku'alofa.

The President of the Free Wesleyan Church schools in Tonga, Siosaia Pele, said today that he was hopeful that they had reached their target for the one-day event.

Siosaia said that every year FWC Church schools are given a certain amount to raise from the bazaar. Larger high schools such as Tupou College target $40,000 while Tupou High School, which has four different campuses in Fasi, Vaololoa, Tapunisiliva and Nukunuku, is expected to raise more, and Mo...’unga...’olive, a small secondary school was expected to collect only $10,000 during the bazaar.

Each school was selling its own handicrafts including waistmats, kiekie, fans, bags and earrings. The Tupou College boys were selling kafa, kava bowls and various agricultural produce that they grew in their school farm like tapioca.

Other products sold included homemade treats such as cakes and sweets with the Tupou High school students selling food baskets including one pound of corn beef, a cooked pig, and other dishes that went for about $30 to $50 pa...’anga per basket.

Siosaia said that during last year...’s bazaar the schools collected nearly $100,000. The FWC annual schools bazaar, excluded Queen Salote College, which has its own bazaar on November 23.
