Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Tuesday, April 9, 2019 - 17:20

Tonga’s Court of Appeal is sitting this week and will hear a total of 17 appeals, starting on April 8.

Tongasat is appealing against a Supreme Court decision that declared the multi-million Chinese aid fund grants paid to the company in 2008 and 2011 were unlawful.

Other appeals are Tonga National Rugby League Board appealing against their dismissal; and a long ongoing court battle by former chief Secretary Busby Kautoke against the Public Service Commission.

Hon. Justice Kenneth Handley from Australia, Hon. Justice Sir Peter Blanchard and Hon. Justice Tony Randerson both from New Zealand are presiding over the appeals.

Judgments are expected to be delivered next week.
