A new Tonga National Rugby League Board of Directors was elected in a Special General Meeting on March 9 replacing an old one, dismissed last year by a Supreme Court judge.

The Acting Attorney General 'Aminiasi Kefu said the Representatives of the Members of the Tonga National Rugby Leagues Incorporated Society elected the Board of Directors which include:

Chairman: Siaosi Koloamatangi, Kolomu’a
Vice-Chairman: Petuliki Mafile’o, Kolonga
Director of Kolofo’ou District, Silivenusi Taumoepeau, Kolomu’a
Director of Kolomotu’a District, Heimuli Pangai, Toa-ko-Ma’afu
Director of Vahe Loto District, Lokingi Mavae, Vaini
Director of Vahe Hahake District, Siamelie Latu, Mu’a Saints
Director of Vahe Hihifo District, Tonga Fonua, Ha’akame 

Secretary, William C. Edwards Jr, Kolomu’a

Kefu convened and chaired the Special Meeting in his capacity as Amicus Curiae appointed by the Supreme Court in a civil case by Silivenusi Taumoepeau, Evona Latu, Suiti Leilani ‘Alatini and Siona Tu'akalau v Semisi Sika, Stan Moheloa and TNRL Incorporated Society.

He said in accordance with a Supreme Court Order on November 16, 2018 this new Board of Directors is to carry on the affairs of the League, which include having its finances properly audited by a properly qualified chartered accountant.

"Once the proper audit is completed, the new Board of Directors will then convene an Annual General Meeting to elect a new Board of Directors and to consider the normal agenda for such meeting."

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Hom Semisi Sika remains as TNRL President and Hon Tevita ‘Unga Ma’afu remains as Vice-President, until replaced in an election in the Annual General Meeting. 


Dismissal

Hon. Mr Justice Niu in his judgment in November last year dismissed the former board, which had Chairman Stan Moheloa, Tavake Fangupo, Siu Fangupo, Pita Vakautakakala and Matani Nifofa, due to their failure to properly audit TNRL finances.
