New village water tanks for Tongatapu and Ha'apai [1]

Nine villages in Tongatapu and two islands in the Ha...apai Group will soon enjoy the comfort of new water tanks after recipients today signed contracts to receive $369,131 of funding from the Australian Government.
The Australian fund is made available under the Tonga Community Development Scheme for 2005-06 through the Tonga Central Planning Department.
It will finance the construction of 156 water tanks throughout the villages of Niutoua, Talafo...ou, Malapo, Ha...akame, Haveluloto, Tofoa, Longolongo, Ngele...ia and Halaleva in Tongatapu and Kotu and Nomuka in the Ha...apai islands. The construction of the new tanks will begin on October 23 and will be conducted by local constructors.
Dr Kalolaine Fusimalohi the Director of the Central Planning Department, who co-signed the contracts, congratulated the recipients and said that the funding they were receiving would help to raise the standards of living and help ease poverty in Tonga.
She also said that the fund was part of $1.13 million financing for various projects for 2005-06 under the scheme.
