Parliamentary national tour begins October 23 [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 18:22.  Updated on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 - 18:44.

The tour was initially set for July 17-30, but was postponed because of the Royal Funeral of the late Prince Tu‘’ipelehake and Princess Kaimana Tuku‘aho in July.

Siaosi Vete of the Parliamentary office in Nuku‘alofa, confirmed that a budget of $200,000 pa‘’anga had been allocated for the national tour. The financial allocation enables members to finance needy projects that they discover during their tour of the outer islands and the rural villages.

The objective of the tour is for Cabinet Ministers to view Government development projects and for the People's Representatives to personally meet the people in the islands and the rural areas.

Following the tour the Tongan Legislature will reconvene on Monday November 6.
