Eleven people were arrested after being found in possession of methamphetamine and cannabis in a drug bust over the weekend in Ngele'ia.

The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce seized 36 packs of methamphetamine, eight packs of cannabis, cash and electronic supplies.

Two men were arrested on Friday, February 15 after being found with three packs of methamphetamine ready for sale. One was arrested at a home and the other on the road.

On Saturday February 16, a 26-year-old man was arrested with one pack of methamphetamine, on the road.

In addition, eight people were arrested at a home in the same village, later on the same day.

They included three women and five men, who were found with 32 packs of methamphetamine, eight packs of cannabis and cash. These packs of illicit drugs were ready for sale.

Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai said today, Tonga Police are committed to disrupt and detect the supply of drugs and prevent the harm it causes.

“Police will continue to work with the community to prevent the harm illicit drugs cause and the ongoing criminal activity associated with their use.”

The suspects remain in police custody while an investigation continues.
