Weddings keep Registry busy [1]

Akaeli Mafua and Heimoana Soakai from Havelu tie the knot at the Registry Office, Nuku'alofa. 17 January 2019.

This year 31 marriages have been registered since government offices resumed working on January 3.

Thursday, January 17 was the busiest day of nuptials at the Registry Office in Nuku’alofa, with 10 marriages registered. Among the happy couples was ‘Asaeli Mafua (36) and Heimoana Soakai (30) from Havelu. 

December remained the most popular wedding month in Tonga with a large number of couples flocking to the registry before government closed on December 20, 2018.

A total of 106 marriages were registered in December with Thursday, December 6 the busiest day when 23 marriages were registered.
