Three men have been arrested and charged in relation to the seizure of methamphetamine and cannabis packed ready for distribution and cash at a home in Hauloto, Tongatapu on Sunday morning, January 13.

Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Fe’ao Vaisuai said today, the Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce in disrupting the supply of illicit drugs had seized 189 packs of cannabis (446 grams), 23 packs of methamphetamine (7.97 grams) and cash. 

She said two men aged 31 and 32 from Hauloto were arrested, and the third was arrested during the search, when he visited the home with one pack of methamphetamine.

The accused who are in custody were expected to appear at the Magistrate’s Court today. 

“Tonga Police are committed to disrupt and detect the supply of drugs and prevent the harm this illegal activity causes,” said the Deputy Commissioner. Since the initiation of the Drugs Enforcement Taskforce in April 2018 a total of 114 people have been arrested

“Police will continue to work with the community to prevent the harm illicit drugs cause and the ongoing criminal activity associated with their use. We encourage anyone who may have information about drug related offending to contact the nearest Police station or ring 23417 or 922,” she said. 

Hauloto is situated near the Liahona area.
