Arrests after alleged drug sale at school rugby field [1]

Two men have been arrested for allegedly selling illicit drugs at the Tonga High School rugby field, situated outside the school compound, on November 29.
Commander of the Central Police Station, Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today in response to this report, a 38-year-old man who escaped in his vehicle was arrested.
Police chased and arrested him at his home in Tofoa with one pack of cannabis weighing 0.21 grams.
The other, a 33-year-old man from Pili had also escaped in his vehicle but was caught by Police. He was released after no drugs were found during the initial search.
However, later at 11:00pm, the Police Drugs Enforcement Taskforce arrested him at a guest house in Kolofo'ou with 159.13 grams of cannabis packed ready for distribution, 0.34 grams of methamphetamine, drugs paraphernalia and home brew.
“As demonstrated by this arrest, we continue to focus on capturing and prosecuting those responsible for the supply of these destructive drugs that cause harm to our youths, families and our community.”
“Police will continue to work with the community to prevent the harm illicit drugs cause and the ongoing criminal activity associated with their use. We encourage anyone who may have information about drug related offending to contact their nearest police station, or ring 23417 or 922,” he said.
The suspects are in custody as investigation continues.
