Man arrested with firearm and illicit drug [1]

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, November 7 after being found in possession of a firearm, ammunition and cannabis at a road in Sopu.

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today during a routine police patrol at around 1:35am, the accused who was in a vehicle parked on the side of the road was found with the illicit goods. He said this consisted of 46.21 grams of cannabis, an air gun and nine ammunition belonging to a .22 rifle.

The accused has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license and possession of the illicit drug.

“We advise the public to contact us of any suspicious activity as this arrest of a firearm showed an intention to commit a crime,” he said.

The accused is reported to be from Fua‘amotu.
