Seventeen people have been charged under the Traffic Act for generating loud noise (music) from their motor vehicles last week.
Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said most of the arrests were made over the weekend, starting on Friday and Saturday as it was the Mate Ma’a Tonga game against Australia.
Under the Traffic Act, any person who drives a vehicle on any road, and such vehicle generates loud noise without authority under any enactment; such person commits an offence under the Act.
He said loud noise or music is allowed from motor vehicles during official events like float parades, which have sought permission but apart from that it is prohibited.
