King visits EXPO 2020 site [1]

King Tupou VI has visited the site of EXPO 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where Tonga will have its own pavilion in the “Opportunities Sector”.
The King was in UAE on October 2 for bilateral talks with the Minister of State for International Cooperation and Managing Director EXPO 2020, HE Reem Al Hashimi.
According to a statement released today by the Tongan delegation, the King was interested in the development of trade opportunities for fisheries and agriculture, and for possible further investments in infrastructure such as tourism.
Previously, the UAE has funded the Vava‘u Solar Plant.
The King expressed gratitude for the US$ 3.5 million grant aid given to Tonga by UAE to support the electricity infrastructure rebuild to the villages, following Cyclone Gita in February this year.
