‘Asipolo Pita (40) is the man who passed away at Vaiola Hospital on September 26, after he was allegedly assaulted outside a bar and restaurant in Nuku’alofa, a month earlier.

Tonga Police today released the name of the victim who had been hospitalized for severe injuries since the assault on the August 23.

The 20-year-old accused, who was initially charged with grievous bodily harm, had his charge upgraded to murder last week, when he was arrested after being released on bail.

He is expected to appear on Monday, October 8 at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court.

The victim is from 'Esia in 'Eua but was living in Tofoa.
