Drunk driver charged in Nualei road death [1]

A male pedestrian died on Saturday morning, September 8 after being hit by a vehicle, whose driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, at Nualei.
Tonga Police said today the 29 -year-old accused from Kolonga was arrested and charged with reckless driving causing death and drunk driving.
The accident occurred at around 2:00am, when the accused allegedly hit the victim, who was crossing on the main road in Nualei.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was confirmed dead upon arrival at Vaiola Hospital.
This is the 20th road fatality recorded so far this year in Tonga.
It is the highest number of road deaths since 2008, when road fatalities reached 20. Last year there were only six road deaths, with 18 in 2016.
