Vilitali Kiteau is the male pedestrian who died on Friday night, August 3, after being hit by a vehicle whose driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, on Vuna Road in Popua.
Police said today the 38-year-old accused from Popua who has been charged with reckless driving causing death and drunk driving remains in custody.
He is due to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 10.
The accident occurred at around 7:00pm, when the accused who was driving east allegedly hit the victim, who was walking on the side of the road in front of the New Zealand High Commissioner's residence.
The victim was confirmed dead upon arrival at Vaiola Hospital.
