A Chinese resident Gao Jian is on trial for charges of illegally possessing under-sized Sea Cucumber (Loli) during the closed season in accordance to Fishery regulations.
The trial was commenced by Hon. Justice Cato at the Tonga Supreme Court on 27 June.
The court revealed that Police interviewed Mr Jian before executing a search warrant on his premises where they discovered the allegedly undersized sea cucumber.
The police interview was ruled to be inadmissible as evidence by the court after the defence argued that neither the Police nor Mr Jian could understand a Chinese interpreter used by Police in the interview.
Jian’s defence failed to make inadmissible the evidence gathered by police in their search warrant.
