Junior Fa wins WBO Oriental Belt [1]

Uaine Fa Jnr defeated Mexican heavyweight Luis Pascual via a 10 round unanimous decision victory on Friday night 22 June, in Auckland, to win the World Boxing Organisation Oriental title.

Fa dominated the fight and landed numerous punches on Pascual. The hardy Mexican held a 13 – 1 record entering the fight.

Despite the dominant performance, boxing commentators expressed dissatisfaction with Fa’s decision victory. Former New Zealand cruiserweight champion Monty Betham stated that Fa needed to show “more mongrel”.

No shortage

Tongan boxer Panuve Helu fought in an undercard to Fa’s fight. Helu showed no shortage of mongrel, knocking out his Kiwi opponent within 30 seconds of the opening bell.
