A headstone was unveiled on Jonah Lomu’s grave in Auckland today at the Manukau Memorial Gardens. Lomu passed away on 18 November 2015, less than month after he witnessed New Zealand win the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
An unveiling ceremony was held with a speech delivered by Lomu’s wife Nadene Lomu. Standing alongside were her and Lomu’s two sons Dhyrelle and Brayley Lomu.
Nadene told a crowd attending the ceremony, "We wanted something fitting and although we could never get anything big enough for him it was the best we could do to reflect the man he was...and the wonderful daddy he will always be.”
Traditional Tongan mats were used to unveil Lomu’s black headstone. An inscription at the top of the headstone read “Families can be together forever”.
