Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Wednesday, May 30, 2018 - 16:41

Vatau Hui. Nuku'alofa, January 2018.

Vatau Hui, Niua People’s Representative to Parliament, was fined $300 pa'anga after he was charged with failing to provide a statement of his campaign spending during the 2017 General Election.

The MP who pleaded guilty to the offence on May 18 at the Fasi Magistrate's Court, had failed to submit to the Supervisor of Elections the statement within 14 days of the election.

After the Acting Attorney General was alerted of this electoral infringement, the MP was charged.

Vatau was elected for the first time to parliament last year after he unseated former Niua MP Fe'ao Vakata.
