Shooter at Tonga College charged with firearm offences [1]

A 43-year-old man from Matangiake has been arrested and charged for firing a firearm inside the Tonga College (‘Atele) compound in Ha’ateiho on Wednesday, May 16.
Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today they received a complaint from the school about the man who was threatening some of the school students and discharging the firearm, an air gun, into the air.
No one was injured, he said.
On Friday, May 18 police executed a search warrant at his home leading to his arrest and seizure of the air gun.
He has been charged with possession of an illegal firearm and discharging a firearm within boundaries of a town.
The accused was released on bail on Monday, May 21 to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on a later date.
