NZ presents $7m grant to Tonga after Gita [1]

NZ High Commissioner Tiffany Babington and Kilisitina Tuaimei'api, Nuku'alofa, 4 May 2018.

The New Zealand High Commissioner Tiffany Babington presented a NZ$7 million grant contribution to Kilisitina Tuaimei’api, the Acting Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Finance and National Planning last week, 4 May.

The NZ$7 million grant is part of the NZ$10 million package of assistance announced by the New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, when she visited Tonga in March.

Some of the NZ$7 million has been earmarked for the reprinting of primary school curriculum materials that were damaged by tropical cyclone Gita.

The NZ$3 million balance will be handed over later will be used to ensure that the Tonga Village Electricity Network Upgrade is completed by the end of 2018.
