Two teenage boys charged with murder in relation to the death of a Chinese couple, Mr and Mrs Wen, in February had their case adjourned to June 25, at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court.

The accused Sitiveni 'Esi Muli (17) and Sami Kaho Jr (14) represented by Sifa Tu'utafaiva appeared when the case was called on April 30.

However, the matter was adjourned to June 25 for the committal of papers to be served both on the accused.

On May 1, the Crown also disclosed all relevant evidence to the defence counsel.

This was after the Magistrate ruled for the Crown to disclose all relevant evidence in its possession to the defence, in order to allow for a bail application to be made to the Supreme Court, which has jurisdiction to grant bail in murder charges.

Meanwhile, police had reported that the couple, who were both in their 50s, were found dead with stab wounds to their heads and necks at Matafonua bush allotment in Lakepa, on February 25.

It was also revealed that both of the accused were escaped prisoners who fled custody at the Nukunuku Police Station, before being arrested on March 1.

The couple, Mr and Ms Wen sold vegetables at Talamahu market and were known for being friendly.
