Police are looking for 300 kava plants estimated to be worth almost $13,000 pa’anga stolen from a plantation in Fo’ui earlier this month.
A 70 year old man had filed his first complaint with police on April 4 after discovering 100 of his kava plants had been uprooted and stolen. While police were investigating the theft, another 200 of his kava plants were stolen.
Police today appealed to members of the public to come forward if they have any information on the thefts or the selling of stolen kava.
"Kava plants are the fruition of the hard work of these people who have had their livelihood stolen. Thieves continue to target kava because of its increased market value, a kilo sold at $150 pa’anga," said a police spokesperson today.
No arrests has been been made. There have been numerous kava thefts reported in the past few months.
