The summary trial against four police officers charged with common assault during the arrest of a group of youths was adjourned, after a video footage of the alleged assault was admitted into evidence, at the Fasi Magistrate's Court.
Kapine Havea, Filipe Langi, Sione Finau and Sione Paea, who have pleaded not guilty, appeared on Friday, April 20 when the video was admitted into evidence.
The case was adjourned for the prosecution to file submissions on a separate legal issue on 23 April, and for defence to file a response by April 25, before a ruling is made.
A date will be subsequently set down for the trial to continue.
The assault is alleged to have been inflicted on Francis Norris (16) and another victim in Nuku'alofa.
The complainants were part of a group of youths who were out celebrating on Sunday October 29last year, after watching the Mate Ma’a Tonga defeat Scotland on television. The assault is alleged to have taken place during an arrest for offences relating to disorderly behaviour.
