Police Commissioner’s contract extended [1]

The contract for Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell has been extended for another two-years by King Tupou VI in Council.
Lord Privy Seal Viliami Malolo said today the decision was taken by His Majesty in Council on April 10 and conveyed to government for implementation.
“His Majesty in Council, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Tonga Police Act and the Constitution, has extended the contract of the Police Commissioner Stephen John Caldwell for another two-years with effect from April 14, 2018."
The New Zealander began on the job on April 13, 2015 after signing a three-year contract of employment, which was open for renewal.
His appointment rests with the King in Council upon recommendation from a Judicial Appointments and Discipline Panel.
