A local Chinese company joined the thousands of people who helped clean up Tonga after Tropical Cyclone Gita thrashed Tongatapu and ‘Eua last month.
Using a small mobile crane, eight staff from the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) removed a huge satellite dish that was laying across Tupoulahi Road.
The dish, normally in the Ministry of Labour and Commerce office compound, next to the Tanoa Hotel, was picked up by Gita and tossed across the road.
CCECC General Manager, Mr Gao Dong said the Minister for Labour and Commerce, Hon Dr Tevita Tu’iuata called for help to move the satellite off the road.
He said it took them two hours but he is pleased his company was able to assist Tonga.
“We try [our] best to help Tonga people after TC Gita within our capacity.”
The company also helped to clean the roads, lifting broken trees off roads near Mataki’eua and Tongamai.
Much of the debris that was scattered on roads all over Tongatapu and ‘Eua by Gita have now been removed.
Work is still underway to repair the power network with power lines workers from Australia and New Zealand helping Tonga Power to restore it as quickly as they can.
