Accused teenage murderers were escaped prisoners [1]

The two teenage boys aged 17 and 15 who were charged with the murder of a Chinese couple at Matafonua, are revealed to have been escaped prisoners.

Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell said this afternoon, the two youths were part of five prisoners who escaped from custody at the Nukunuku Police Station, early Sunday morning February 25.

He said that he was only today informed that the accused killers were escaped prisoners.

“A full investigation has been launched to the full circumstances of their escape.”

The two accused were arrested on March 1.

The couple, Mr and Ms Wen were Chinese nationals who sold vegetables at Talamahu market and were known for being friendly. They were both in their fifties and reportedly have a teenage son in China.
