Five Tongan sisters from Hawaii – Alexsia (19), Tiueti (16), Lela (15), Elisiva (14) and Nini (10) – were guests on America’s popular Ellen Degeneres Show yesterday, where the singers each received a cheque of $10,000 USD. The group are all daughters of Walter and Telesia Tonga, who immigrated from Tonga to Hawaii.
US celebrity Ellen Degeneres interviewed the girls, asking about their amibitions in life and their musical talents. The sisters all wanted to pursue university education and credited their mother as their inspiration.
The unofficial girl band "Tongan Sisters" have sung at numerous charities, local sporting events and morning TV Shows in Hawaii. In 2013, they were given the honour of singing the American national anthem at a San Francisco 49ers game.
