Three men died from a car crash at Ha'ateiho on Saturday night, February 24, while one woman remains in critical condition at Vaiola Hospital.

Deputy Police Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai said today that one of the deceased, 22-year-old Chinese man Mr Xiang Zeng was confirmed to have recklessly overtaken vehicles while driving east on Taufa’ahau Road.

He swerved on to a sidewalk and when he tried to return to his lane, he crashed into an oncoming car heading west, where the two victims, Sosefo Loloa (37) and Fangufangu Mana Latu (35) were passengers.

Sosefo died on impact while Mana passed away four hours later and their female driver (41) from Lapaha remains in critical condition.

Zheng died at around 6:42am on Sunday, February 25 at the hospital.

The Deputy Commissioner appealed for everyone to please drive carefully because three people have died as a result of reckless and dangerous driving by one driver.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, most drivers do a great job and we congratulate them for making sound decisions when they’re behind the wheel. It’s the mistake and poor judgment of the risk takers who put the lives of the innocent in danger.”

Police were called to the crash scene at 10:00pm. The investigation continues.
