Thieves arrested, CBD curfew extended [1]

Two teenagers were arrested with boxes of goods stolen from the Central Business District of Nuku’alofa on February 14. 

The two males aged 17 and 18 years have been charged with housebreaking and theft. The goods are alleged to have been taken from a shop in the area.

Tonga is still under a State of Emergency following Cyclone Gita and Police yesterday extended the night curfew to the CBD for another week, between the hours of 8:00pm to 8:00am, to further protect people and property.

Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell will later revise the curfew.

Initially the curfew started on February 12 at 9:00pm until 7:00am the next day.

The roads delimiting the CBD curfew area are Tupoulahi Road to the east, Mateialona Road to the south, Vaha’akolo Road to the west and Vuna Road to the North.

No one is allowed to enter the Nuku’alofa Central Business area unless they are part of Tropical Cyclone Gita’s Emergency Response Team, Police stated.
