A 25-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the housebreaking and theft of more than $10,000 pa’anga at Office Equipment premises on January 6.
He has been charged with housebreaking and theft and is remanded in custody to appear at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate's Court later today.
Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said the accused was arrested at around 2:00pm at a bush allotment in Tatakamotonga.
He said police enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage from inside the building, have confirmed the accused as the suspect.
Police also searched the place where he was arrested and found clothes that matched those worn by the burglar as identified from the security footage.
"This is excellent work by the Police Criminal Investigation Unit in locating and arresting this man responsible for this burglary. Burglary is a crime that affects not only the shop owners, but also the community and we will make sure that criminals are held to account for their actions," he said.
