"Tax Week" celebrates expenditure [1]

Tax Week, Nuku'alofa, 22 October 2017.

A "Tax Week" was held for the first time in Tongatapu on October 16-22, under the theme, "Revenue From The Community, For The Community".

Among a number of events that was organized by the Ministry of Revenue and Customs to mark the Tax Week was a float parade through central Nuku'alofa on 21 October. The purpose of the celebration, they stated, was to show how taxes are spent on the community.

According to the government's Budget Statement 2017-18, the Government's total expenditure for 2017/18 is $598.8 million pa’anga.

Meanwhile, It was estimated that tax revenue for the current financial year will be $247.4 million.
