Motekiai Taukolo Langi is set to debut for the Brigham Young University (BYU) Cougars this weekend 27 August against the Portland State Vikings in Provo City, Utah.

BYU Cougars defensive co-ordinator, Ilaisa Tuiaki (of Tongan descent) confirmed to Utah’s Deseret News that the 20-year-old “Mo” Langi would play as a blocker in the special teams.

“He’ll play on special teams right now, because we can kind of make his assignment specific, but it’s really, really difficult," Tuiaki stated in regard to Motekiai’s current capacity.

Since being offered a scholarship to BYU in 2015, the 6’7 foot and 185 kilo Motekiai has created a buzz and is highly anticipated by BYU students and fans. However, Tuiaki stated that it would be a while before Motekiai would be regular lineman.

“If you’re a fan, realistically plan on him taking snaps in two years,” Tuiaki told Deseret news.

“He’ll get better, but as far as being a guy we can depend on to be out there and play? I think he’s a few years away, but I love his progress so far. He has a great attitude and he’s a funny, funny kid.”

Motekiai Langi hails from Matangiake/Kahoua and attended Tonga High School. In 2014, he played in the “Kingdom Bowl” an exhibition gridiron game at Teufaiva stadium. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ and Later Day Saints.
