Four young Tongans have travelled to Noumea, New Caledonia, to learn how to produce a short film, as part of the Wake Up campaign to engage youth in combating non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
‘Ilisapeti Foster (20), Rocky Grewe (15), Russell Grewe (16) and ‘Elina Tu’itupou (17) were selected to represent Tonga, with Malani Wolfgramm as their video editor.
In April 2017, the group put forward a video proposal in response to a video competition and were one of five groups selected (15-25 years old) from Fiji, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Tonga, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna.
The three-day technical and storytelling workshop starts today, 21 August. They will work with a professional production company and undertake special training in order to produce a broadcast quality video based on their submitted concept.
‘Ilisapeti Foster said that not only would they produce the video, they were also going to act in it.
“We’re going to make a short funny video,” she said. The video will be 3-5 minutes long.
The group are excited at the opportunity of learning more in New Caledonia this week.
The Wake Up campaign project is co-funded by the Pacific Fund, Pacific Community (SPC) and UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji.
